INCREASED SAFETY ENCLOSURES
The principle use for increased safety enclosures is to house electrical equipment that will not generate an arc or spark during normal operation. They are designed to provide an alternative to flameproof enclosures, and are generally made from sheet steel, fiberglass or die cast aluminum. Increased safety is achieved through the enhancement of insulation values and creep-age and clearance distances above those required for normal service.
Key Design Features
- Enclosure constructed to withstand mechanical impact and provide a specified degree of ingress protection (IP Rating).
- Internal connections must not be subject to undo mechanical stress – Designed to specific methods.
- External Connections – Generously dimensioned – Contactors fastened securely.
- Clearance and Creepage – Must not be less than the values specified by rated voltage.
